CERAMICHE KEOPE
COTTOMILANO - SABBIA
Porcelain stoneware wall/floor tiles with terracotta effect
COTTOMILANO - SABBIA is a porcelain stoneware wall/floor tiles with terracotta effect.
Memory and vision, matter and technology: these are the words that make up the design alphabet of CottoMilano, the new product that Ceramiche Keope is unveiling at Cersaie 2025. A porcelain stoneware story that originates from the beating heart of Milan and the living fire of the historic Fornace Curti, where Lombard terracotta has taken shape since 1400, becoming architecture, emotion and culture. Materially expressive, rich in iron, frost-resistant and durable, its deep red colour, far removed from the pinkish tones of Tuscan terracotta, has marked some of the most iconic pages of the Milanese Renaissance. Today, this ancient material is reinvented with elegance and contemporaneity, giving life to refined tactile surfaces with the typical opacity of terracotta, designed to dialogue with the language of contemporary design.
Created by designer Domenico Orefice, in collaboration with the Keope Research & Development team, CottoMilano is imbued with invisible technology that reinterprets the most precious artisan traditions in a modern key, restoring a tactile and chromatic softness never before experienced on ceramics. This research finds expression in the various finishes in the range. ULTRAmatt, for which a patent has been filed, guarantees extreme opacity combined with surprising tactile comfort and ease of maintenance. An innovative solution that combines aesthetics and performance for contemporary and versatile interior design projects. The Glossy finish, in the 6x24 format, multiplies the play of light, while the Structured R11 surface, in the 60x60 and 120x120 formats, is perfect for outdoor use. Alongside Mattone, CottoMilano comes in a wide and fascinating colour palette, making it cosmopolitan, universal and suitable for the most contemporary architectural designs. Warm, textured shades such as Terracotta, Sabbia and Creta alternate with more neutral and delicate shades such as Argilla and Talco. Thanks to Keope's R&D work and Domenico Orefice's creative vision, terracotta is no longer perceived as a material mainly used in rustic environments, but has become a contemporary, versatile option with a strong visual impact.
The collection is available in a variety of sizes, with a preference for large formats such as 120x120 and 60x120, to consistently dress international projects and urban environments without sacrificing the intimate warmth of tradition. The decorations in the series are inspired by Renaissance Milan – from the friezes, façades and austere, decorative geometries of the Ca' Granda and Santa Maria delle Grazie – to reinterpret historical motifs and essential forms with a contemporary spirit. In CottoMilano, the material – alive and authentic – comes to life thanks to structures and decorations that make the collection unique and unrepeatable. 20x20 elements create sophisticated graphic suggestions and imaginary façades, in which the traditional, glossy and thick material enriches the soft and opaque backgrounds. The 60x120 decoration, on the other hand, conveys a more abstract pattern that can be freely oriented, evoking an architecture suspended between past and future. The collection also includes new 6x24 cm bricks, available in both glossy and matt versions, and cut decorations, designed to offer maximum compositional versatility in residential and contract contexts.
CottoMilano is an invitation to rediscover the beauty of gesture, material, contact and the warmth of terracotta. In an increasingly immaterial and digital present, this collection has its roots in the real, in the handmade, in slow time. A project that restores depth to living spaces and emotional dignity to architecture, combining Italian heritage with design sensibility and Italian innovation.
