ClassiCon VOLKSHAUS Wooden and rope garden footstool

The Volkshaus Outdoor furniture series by Herzog & de Meuron offers impressive seating comfort that is an inherent part of its design.‎ The graphically designed furniture with its sophisticated construction draws inspiration from the traditional timber joints used in Japanese architecture.‎ The lounge chair consists of a robust, stable wooden structure and two solid robinia frames strung with cord.‎ Thanks to the use of durable green or black cord, the chair appears light and transparent.‎ The same applies to the stool, which can be used as a footrest or seat.‎ ClassiCon presents its new VOLKSHAUS range of furniture, designed by the renowned architecture firm Herzog & de Meuron.‎ In addition to an oak lounge chair and stool, with seats and backrests of hardwearing cord, the collection also includes a matching side table made of solid oak.‎ The complex construction of the frames with intersecting X shapes of square timber is inspired by traditional wooden joints as used in Japanese architecture.‎ Due to its asymmetrical design, the sculptural furniture looks different from every angle - and can be used in a wide variety of rooms.‎ The central and unifying design feature of all pieces in the VOLKSHAUS range is the point at which the CNC-cut wooden legs intersect and interlock: this wooden connection appears simple, but is in fact highly complex.‎ It was created as part of a comprehensive research process by Herzog & de Meuron.‎ Inspired by traditional wooden joints, this ingenious construction principle gives the furniture in the VOLKSHAUS range its sculptural character and architectural expression.‎
