The new self-blocking photocatalytic screed BLUE CITY® was produced from the environmental awareness of Ferrari BK and Italcementi's revolutionary TX Millennium cement .
This new product stems from FERRARI BK's experience in manufacturing of outdoor flooring, which has been able to combine the unique qualities of the Via Postumia® to the revolutionary TX Millennium photocatalytic cement. The result is a more beautiful and healthier city. The use of TX Millennium in the screeds and the continuous monitoring in the Ferrari BK, guarantee thephotocatalytic action of the screeds BLUE CITY® FERRARI BK, which used in urban areas can make an effective contribution to the reduction of urban pollution.
The screeds BLUE CITY® screeds in fact, only thanks to the presence presence of natural light, oxidise organic and inorganic pollutants into non-pollutant into non-polluting substances, such as nitrates, sulphates and carbonates which are washed away with rainwater and are not harmful to health and the environment.
From the quantitative data obtained in a series of experiments carried out both in the laboratory and in the field, the purification capacity of the photocatalytic coating has been proven to be very high. For nitrogen oxides one can estimated at around 30 t/year per km² of pavement.
Considering that a catalysed vehicle emits nitrogen oxides of approximately 0.4 g/km it is determined that 1 km² of pavement reduces emissions by approximately 75 million km, and assuming that the average distance travelled by a vehicle in urban areas is 10,000 km/year, the quantity absorbed corresponds to 7,500 vehicles per year.
Photocatalytic screeds BLUE CITY® FERRARI BK are been tested in Italcementi laboratories and in laboratories at the University of Ferrara and their effectiveness has been demonstrated in both.
