NEW ORIGINS
Handmade patterned rug
New Origins is a rectangular rug made of 70% undyed wool and 30% jute, available in two colorways.
New Origins is a collection that explores the moment when form precedes style, returning to original materials and gestures in which structure and sensation coexist in a precise balance.
Designed by Aline de Laforcade, this proposal is born from a deep observation of Mediterranean artisanal traditions and from her daily life in Ibiza, a context in which architecture, craftsmanship, and landscape have historically developed from the same material logic. New Origins is not just a rug, but a return to an essence that brings solidity to interiors through tactile presence rather than aesthetic statement.
For its creator, the abstraction of this collection lies in the recovery of the essential gestures of creation, abandoning the superfluous to embrace the primary dimension of creativity. On this basis, the collection deliberately moves away from a cold, technological minimalism to adopt a softer, more tactile and human language, offering calm and a sense of belonging in a globalized world.
Thanks to its intelligent combination of materials, it functions as a stabilizing base capable of completely transforming the atmosphere of any space. The piece is fully woven, combining a structured jute base with wool articulated through rhythmic plays of long and short pile. While jute provides architectural clarity, a solid base, and an almost structural scale, wool introduces warmth, depth, and the human scale necessary for well-being. This contrast between woven structure and pile height variations creates a warm domestic feeling that is visually understated yet deeply sensorial underfoot.
According to de Laforcade, the project responds to a contemporary need for longevity and material intelligence, in which the object does not merely decorate but protects. It is an ideal response for contemporary spaces seeking to complement furniture with clean silhouettes without competing for attention, acting as a stabilizing foundation that anchors the environment.
Behind the simplicity of New Origins lies a cultural heritage that evolves over time without losing its original essence. The collection echoes the tactile legacy of the Mediterranean, where historically fibers such as esparto were widely used to produce everyday objects, now reinterpreting it through the contemporary union of jute and wool. It is not about roots as nostalgic or static memory, but about origin as a living condition. By focusing on the truth of the material and the honesty of form, this collection celebrates the imperfection of natural fiber, resulting in a design deeply rooted in contemporary sensibility.
