Panal is a rectangular rug made of 100% New Zealand wool, available in two sizes.
The Panal collection pays tribute to the biological efficiency of the animal world, drawing inspiration from the hexagonal structures of beehives — a masterclass in applied geometry that has inspired architecture for centuries. The rug therefore transcends its purely decorative role to become an ode to ecological architecture and the pursuit of essentiality.
The design moves away from the superfluous to focus on the visual strength of organic repetition. In this collection, volumetry becomes the absolute protagonist; although a wide chromatic range was initially considered, the final decision was to limit the palette in order to emphasize the interplay of shadows and reliefs created by the hexagons, resulting in a piece that conveys order and natural harmony.
This collection is the outcome of extensive research into artisanal processes from different parts of the world, in this case the Nepalese hand-knotted technique. To achieve the level of perfection required by such a precise geometric structure, the hand-knotted technique was chosen, as it is the only method capable of faithfully reproducing the continuous chromatic variations and texture needed to evoke the depth of a real honeycomb.
This project also allows for the revival of techniques that time seemed to have relegated to oblivion, recontextualizing them through a contemporary design language that preserves the cultural identity of the artisans.
The collection further reflects the creative maturity of its author and his close relationship with landscape and architecture. Influenced by the work currently being carried out on his estate in Ibiza — where topography and outdoor living dictate the rhythm of design — José A. Gandía-Blasco Canales applies the same logic of integration with the environment. For him, design must above all serve human beings and strengthen their connection with the natural world.
Panal is not simply a rug, but rather a fragment of nature translated through industrial rigor and artisanal care, designed to transform interior spaces into a refuge of environmental balance and sensory comfort.
