GreenROOF consists in fitting the green roof system into a flat roof made from double skin grooved sandwich panels.‎ the external sheet is coated with a specific protective, waterproof film, in pvc or tpo (thermoplastic olefin-based elastomers).‎ Thermal insulation is guaranteed by the insulating polyurethane or rock wool core.‎ There are various GreenROOF solutions available depending on design characteristics.‎ Extensive GreenROOF: Suitable for large buildings, sloping and existing roofs for their low substrate thickness (from approx.‎ 3 to 15 cm), with a maximum weight of 100 kg/m².‎ The colonising vegetation is very resilient (moss and beds, grass, succulents) and does not require frequent maintenance (watering only needed in the event of prolonged drought).‎ Plants are no higher than 25 cm and mixing several varieties gives these roofs a multicoloured look that changes with the seasons.‎ This type of roofing cannot be walked on or cultivated.‎ Even though weight and thickness are limited, the System’s considerable water collection capacity gives the plants used excellent vegetation conditions even during extended drought periods.‎ In the Mediterranean climatic area, just the water from the water supply, returned to vegetation through a capillary upwelling process, guarantees the system lasts from about three to seven weeks (based on the type) with no rain.‎ Irrigation is needed if critical periods last longer than three weeks (based on the type).‎ Intensive GreenROOF: For small and medium-sized surfaces.‎ The substrate is larger (from about 15 to 30 cm) and the overload between 120 and 350 kg/m² (at maximum capacity in terms of water).‎ It can accommodate vegetation with longer roots and a certain height like grass, lawns, perennials and bushes.‎ Moderate maintenance and regular watering are needed.‎ These can be compared to traditional gardens; any type of plant can be sown or cultivated.‎ The system requires irrigation facilities; running and maintenance costs can be compared to those of a traditional garden.‎ Due to the heavy load the roof is subjected to, careful design is fundamental for green roofs to guarantee perfect functionality and structure integrity.‎ Capacity data in the load tables, on the following pages, are an estimate in standard use conditions and are not to be considered valid as design data.‎ The Designer will need to examine and check them, in order to identify the right size for the supporting underlying structures.‎ CHARACTERISTICS - thermal insulation and energy savings; - soundproofing; - improved bio-climate and environmental impact; - high water retention; - ability to retain particulates; - roof protection; - usable surfaces; - added value for the building.‎ Further info from manufacturer on GREEN ROOF ISOPAN
