Multilayer pipes are made up of five different layers:
1. polymer material (inner layer)
2. adhesive
3. aluminum alloy (intermediate layer)
4. adhesive
5. polymer material (outer layer)
Given the composite nature of the material, it perfectly combines the advantages of plastic and metal piping.
Advantages of plastic piping:
• lightness
• flexibility
• low surface roughness
• high resistance to corrosion and chlorinated water
Advantages of metal piping:
• high mechanical strength
• bend retention
• total impermeability to oxygen and light.
Multilayer pipes are highly versatile and are primarily used in sanitary water distribution systems, low- and high-temperature heating systems, and compressed air distribution systems. The reference standard for these pipes, UNI EN ISO 21003, provides for different usage classes that define the operating conditions, in terms of design temperatures and pressures, that they will have to endure during their useful life. The polymer material constituting the inner and outer layers can vary, and combinations of PE-X and HDPE are typically used, with the particularity that the latter is never left in contact with the fluid and therefore never constitutes the inner layer of the pipe. In defining its multilayer pipe offering, IVAR has selected top-quality suppliers, with pipes made in Italy (IVAR brand) and made in Germany (Fraenkische brand).
