IVAR PE-RT
PE-RT (Polyethylene of Raised Temperature Resistance) is a polyethylene with improved mechanical resistance to high temperatures. Standard polyethylene organizes its polymer chains into a lamellar crystalline structure. By mixing a suitable monomer (1-octene) with polyethylene, it is possible to stimulate the formation of amorphous polymer segments connecting the crystals of the material. These segments, called tie chains, exhibit extensibility and mobility and improve the hardness of the polyethylene and its resistance to high temperatures. Therefore, PE-RT production does not require cross-linking, and for this reason the material remains thermoplastic, flexible, and easy to weld. Like PE-X, PE-RT also requires an EVOH barrier to prevent the diffusion of oxygen within heating and cooling systems. PE-RT is often preferred for the construction of radiant systems, where several hundred meters are used for a medium-sized apartment: this is both due to the material's high flexibility, which makes it easy to bend, and the simpler industrial process required for its production, which makes it economically competitive.
