CHIRASHI
Rectangular handmade wool rug
Chirashi is characterised by a scattering of elements that create rhythm, balance and a sense of movement across a surface. Situated at the foot of Kanayama Castle, the Museum of Kanayama Castle Ruin and the Kanayama Community Centre in Gunma is a building where stone appears almost fluid, as if shaped by time rather than force. Here, the architecture’s dynamic stone patterns maintain their vivid presence when translated into the language of a rug. Through Jaipur Rugs’ delicate handcraftsmanship, the graphic and rigid character of stone has been reinterpreted as a soft, warm textile, much like the building that inspired it. What emerges is a surface where weight and tactility coexist in delightful balance.
The FACE collection explores the complex “faces” or façades of Kengo Kuma’s architectural works, highlighting their subtle and captivating fragments, textures, and transitions revealed through light, materials, and nature. As a result, bold colours were not necessary: the collection favours natural, earthy tones—shades of brown, taupe, beige, and grey—enhanced by striking black and white graphic accents. The rugs are available in several colour variations, offering great versatility for contemporary interiors.
The use of wool reflects Kengo Kuma’s appreciation for natural materials, while regenerated viscose provides the rigidity required to achieve his innovative three-dimensional designs, showcasing his distinctive exploration of materials. The result is a contemporary aesthetic: a collection designed to last over time and become an integral part of interiors, enriching them for generations.
