Marcel Breuer was an apprentice at the Bauhaus when he began experimenting with tubular steel as a way of building a more transparent chair.‎ Inspired by the frame of a bicycle and influenced by the constructivist theories of the De Stjil movement, Breuer reduced the form of the classic club chair to its elemental lines and planes.‎ Frame Tubular steel with chrome finish, or matte epoxy paint in onyx, white, and dark red.‎ Seat Natural canvas.‎ Glides Each armchair comes with four plastic glides that can be easily applied to the base if needed (for hard floors).‎ Note: On the red and black frame, the screws are blackened and the glides are black.‎ On the white frame, the screws are zinc-plated and the glides are white.‎ The KnollStudio logo and Marcel Breuer’s signature are stamped on every piece in the Breuer collection.‎ Awards - The Museum of Modern Art Award, 1968.‎ - Recognition as "Work of Art" Germany, 1982.‎ Further info from manufacturer on WASSILY CHAIR Knoll
