THE GUEST by Kzeng Jiang - BIG
Porcelain decorative object
This version of The Guest bears the signature of Kzeng Jiang, the first artist of Chinese origin to join the creative universe of this iconic character. Based in Shanghai, his work captures contemporary Oriental culture through vibrant illustrations and radical imagery. Kzeng seeks to represent his cultural roots through the symbolism of tradition, such as Chinese face painting or Song dynasty flowers. Elements that he reinterprets according to his personal vision and which, in this case, are rendered by three large eyes on the character's face which, according to the author, allow him to see the past, present and future, as if he were a messenger travelling through time'. In terms of colour, Kzeng makes use of blues on white porcelain to give balance and visual harmony. Colours that he combines with strips of gold lustre to give that feeling of prestige typical of Chinese porcelain. The result is a creation that conveys the elegance of porcelain and, at the same time, is an example of conceptual and contemporary design.
The Guest is a piece created by Jaime Hayon for The Guest collection by Lladró Atelier, the brand's ideas lab, which invites leading artists from around the world to customise this unique character. The series includes collaborations by Paul Smith, Devilrobots, Gary Baseman, Tim Biskup, Rolito and Hayon himself.
