LIFEWAYS
MDF sideboard with flap doors
With LIFEWAYS, the artist presents a compelling meditation on the human experience - a sculptural sideboard that visualizes the arc of life through form, color, and light. Rendered in understated super-matte light grey, the piece is enlivened by a striking accent of vivid orange, symbolizing vitality and individuality within a shared human journey.
Three commanding steel columns anchor the piece, each representing a distinct stage of life: childhood and youth on the left, middle age at center, and the experienced years on the right. These columns are not static; their integrated lighting - individually adjustable via mobile device - allows viewers to personalize the color and intensity, offering a dynamic way to reflect on their own relationship with time and memory.
Etched and painted across the surface, a series of abstract paths evoke the trajectory of a life lived. The monochromatic lines - black, grey, and white - represent the collective paths of society, the well-trodden roads we often walk together. In contrast, vivid orange lines weave through them, marking the personal journey: the singular, chosen way. The composition suggests movement - rising and sinking lines mirror the inevitable ups and downs of existence, yet all lines move forward, never backward. It is a quiet reminder: life continues, always onward.
LIFEWAYS is Handcrafted in Switzerland from MDF and solid steel. Finished in light grey, deep grey, black, and orange, it is not only a functional object but a sculptural narrative - a piece to contemplate as much as to use.
