QUESTO NON È UN VASO
Stem marble vase
Questo non è un vaso is a project realised with the aim of recovering industrial processing waste, in search of a new functional and aesthetic identity. A collection of vases inspired by the principles of Ikebana, a Japanese term referring to the art of arranging cut living flowers, also known by the more obsolete name of kadō (華道). Understood not only as a religious practice, but also as an artistic one, it conveys the importance of attention to detail, the value of balance, harmony and essentiality. Starting from these points, compositions come to life using not only flowers, but also branches, herbs, leaves and elements of the plant world that respect seasonality. Questo non è un vaso stems from the idea of connecting two natural worlds charged with strong aesthetic connotations: the mineral and the vegetable, investigating volumetric reciprocities and following the intrinsic essentiality of forms. The name is meant to be a provocation: we usually think of a vase as a containing object; in this case the marble blocks only offer support to the plant element. (They are not perforated, but have a milling that contains the stem). Thus a relationship is established between the two worlds and the related idea of transience/longevity; in fact, the ‘vase’ is thought of as something that enhances the green element in all its phases of life. On the one hand, marble is a symbol of eternity/durability; on the other hand, the flower/leaves/branches reveal their fragility while still maintaining a strong aesthetic value. The collection consists of a series of volumes that can be mixed and matched to always create different scenarios.
