ERICE
Aluminium and polyester garden chair with armrests
Erice is a small medieval village located in Sicily, known for a particular textile art that finds its origins in the ancient influences of Greece and the Middle East. The famous Erice carpets, in fact, are handcrafted artefacts made by women skilled in weaving strips of waste fabric on a loom on a series of parallel threads. With the same spirit, Erice is a seat designed with the intent of optimising manual work and the use of textile material, while at the same time creating an object with a strong decorative impact. The structure made with aluminium tubes and bands becomes a real frame that guides the weaving operations. Passing through the holes obtained by laser cutting, the straps draw a geometric pattern made of blocks of colour that alternate, creating different patterns depending on the point of view of the chair. The decoration - readable both in positive and negative - makes it a graphic and almost two-dimensional object; the profile of the seat draws a thin line that recalls Sicilian carpets, a delicate sign in perfect harmony with the extreme lightness of the aluminium. As if they were warp and weft, metal and ribbons allow you to create multiple color combinations by varying their color. To further increase comfort, Erice is also available with an additional cushion for the seat and with armrests covered in rope.
