CHURUATAS
Round handmade wool rug
A key piece in the Tela Alma collection, Churuatas is a remarkably fine rug, born from the collaboration between the Serge Lesage fashion house and Venezuelan artist Claudia Lavegas. It translates one of her emblematic works into textile form, inspired by the circular indigenous huts the artist discovered in the Amazonian village of Mayupa. Through the circle, the artist also celebrates a universal symbol of perfection and eternity. The rug's design echoes the radial structure of these traditional architectures, unfolding precise lines from the center to the periphery. This circular motif was created using a layering of gradients and textures that add volume. Both graphic and organic, it creates a sense of movement and depth, while elegantly structuring the space. The palette of natural and golden hues subtly interacts with the light, revealing the richness of the material and the finesse of its execution. Every detail testifies to the high level of technical skill employed by Serge Lesage in creating this complex piece, where reliefs and textures are worked with great precision. At the crossroads of art and craft, Churuatas stands out as a unique and timeless piece, designed to inhabit interiors and bring them depth, emotion, and character. Our sincere thanks to Claudia Lavegas and to the Wagner Gallery, which represents her. This rug is adapted from a work of art and can only be made in a round shape and respecting the colors desired by the artist.

With this new collection designed by Sarah Gracia, Serge Lesage affirms its expertise in crafting exceptional, creative, elegant and refined pieces. Tela Alma is inspired by the journey of Olga de Amaral, drawing on her approach to weaving, color and her vision of creation, as a language linking artisanal heritage and contemporary expression. At the heart of Tela Alma, ancestral artisanal techniques are employed with subtlety and precision. The interplay of materials, gradients, and colors creates abstract patterns. These compositions suggest imaginary landscapes and terrains, translated through a textile language that is both sensitive and poetic. The color palette also echoes the work of Olga de Amaral. Gold, deep blue, and carmine red, emblematic colors of her works, make each piece vibrate with a new intensity. Venezuelan artist Claudia Lavegas is the featured artist in this collection. The Churuatas rug, adapted from her work, explores the architecture and geometry of indigenous Amazonian huts. This bold artistic choice reflects Sarah's desire to create a dialogue between art and design and echoes the work of Olga de Amaral, who celebrates the encounters between cultures. With Tela Alma, Serge Lesage reaffirms his deep attachment to craftsmanship, color, and handwork, and offers unique pieces that become true works of art.
