NALU
Fabric low lounge chair
Nalu, a modular and sectional armchair, is the result of the collaboration between designer stefania galante and Sprech.
Even its name, a wave in Hawaiian, reveals its relationship with water. It was conceived, in fact, for outdoor furnishing, as a complement for swimming pool edges or seashores.
The essentiality of the form of the outdoor furniture is realised through a perfect interlocking of solids, which recalls Claude Nicolas Ledoux's House of the Overseers of the Loue River, a fantastic architecture that, crossed by the watercourse, integrates landscape and engineering. A manifesto of stereotomy that fuses geometric solid masses and the dynamism of water, showing how through rigour one can arrive at invention.
In Nalu, the intersection of solids is a pretext for creating relationships of solids and voids through which to observe the horizon, just like the wave, when it folds back on itself to form a telescope before breaking on the shoreline.
The elaboration of the forms of NALU's outdoor furniture not only has a symbolic value but is a means of stimulating an interaction with the user, allowing him to imagine new unusual functions, from the storage of objects to a home for pets.
