ARTONA
Armchair with wooden armrests and leather upholstery
The Artona armchair reaffirms design as a cultural act, unpretentiously showcasing its solid wood structure, which becomes both an expression and a language: strong and authoritative, reliable and durable.
Designed by Afra and Tobia Scarpa in the mid-1970s, Artona carefully balances rigor and comfort, protection and stability—sensations it conveys through its very presence. The armchair is a micro-architecture of vertical and horizontal planes: two “L”-shaped elements serve as supports and armrests, while the backrest is the sole soft gesture that softens the design’s geometry. The interplay of wooden layers that animates the surfaces reveals refined cabinetmaking craftsmanship and a quality that speaks of time, proportion, and attention to detail.
