FIVE TO NINE
Zolla fabric daybed
Designed by Studiopepe for Tacchini, the fabric was created for the Five to Nine daybed, deepening its identity inspired by the atmosphere of an artist’s atelier: versatile and iconographic, open to new interpretations. The idea took shape during a workshop in Sardinia, from the meeting between Studiopepe and the historic artisan manufactory Mariantonia Urru and developed through a shared passion with Giusi Tacchini for Bauhaus textiles, and particularly the research of Gunta Stölzl. In her vision, fabric is no longer a simple ornament, but a flexible architectural surface – a tool for investigating structure, function and material. The result is a project that brings together design and manufacturing expertise. Made from natural cotton using the jacquard technique, it features rigorous yet spatially free geometries and sophisticated chromatic references that define a measured and dynamic pattern.
Founded in 1981, Mariantonia Urru represents one of the most authoritative voices in Sardinian textile craftsmanship, understood as a living language that evolves over time. Each project combines conception, experimentation and manual production, in a constant dialogue between craftsmanship, design and territory. Each artefact is a unique, traceable and certified piece that transforms textile into experience, material and narrative.
The Five to Nine daybed has its roots in those 1900s interiors that portrayed a place for creative escape – a space as physical as it was mental - the studios of the great artists. The daybed has a wood structure with open-pore painted finish and turned legs. Bolster pillows upholstered in leather or mohair velvet run its entire length, and an armrest and backrest can be freely positioned along the edge, while an integrated round coffee table with metal or cement surface completes the piece. The seat can be a place to relax or wait in comfort and, thanks to its sleek linear design, it can stand alone or be part of an arrangement of several pieces and accessories.
Drawing inspiration from the Japanese lifestyle philosophy, the daybed can also be used as a guest bed, with a special linen-upholstered, softly padded mattress that, when placed on the bolster pillows, transforms the seat into a real sleep oasis.
