Akène is a design bench that combines material strength and natural inspiration in a sculptural and functional object.‎ The design stems from the observation of the maple seed - a single-seeded dry fruit - and its characteristic helix shape: that light and dynamic element, suspended in the wind, is here reinterpreted in a static key and anchored to the ground through a solid structure.‎ Materials: - Polyester resin reinforced with glass fibres - Oak base, demountable The combination of composite materials and natural wood generates a refined contrast between contemporary surface and material warmth.‎ Acknowledgements: Akène has received major international awards: - 'Les Découvertes' prize at Maison & Objet (September 2012), awarded by Le Journal du Design - 'Metropolislikes' prize awarded by Metropolis magazine during WantedDesign NYC (2017)
