There is a moment, when standing before Ardys, in which one’s gaze settles on the piece and its comfort is perceived as a visual quality as much as a physical one.‎ The new upholstered sofa system designed by Patricia Urquiola for Cassina stems from a clear intuition, to make the softness of its padding immediately tangible.‎ This idea translates into a floor-sofa that embodies a large contemporary quilt.‎ Seats and backrests are made up of generous volumes defined by deep stitching that creates a recognisable graphic rhythm in an interplay of raised and recessed forms that conveys an immediate sense of visual balance.‎ The extensive research conducted by Cassina into materials for Patricia Urquiola’s upholstered system reinforces Ardys’s identity.‎ Alongside traditional upholstery, the London fabric has been introduced specifically for the launch of this product, amplifying its textural narrative with an urban approach that recalls the lightness of technical sports fabrics, with a satin finish that defines Ardys’s volumes.‎ Ardys’s soft padding is made of polyurethane foam containing a percentage of recycled polyols and is covered by an internal lining in recycled polyester wadding.‎ A choice that confirms Cassina’s commitment to using innovative, high-performance materials with the aim of reducing the environmental impact of its products while simultaneously ensuring maximum comfort and durability.‎ Thanks to the absence of traditional moulding methods, Ardys can be easily disassembled; fitted onto a metal frame, the materials can be separated at the end of the product's life, facilitating recycling with a circular design approach.‎ Modularity takes centre stage in this new model: available as a two- or three-seater sofa, armchair and pouf, Ardys also features a wide range of end, corner and central elements.‎ Based on a square matrix, the modules—connected via a custom-designed snap-on joint—offer great compositional freedom.‎ What makes the system unique is the possibility to reinvent configurations at any time; each module, meticulously finished - even in its connecting parts, can be moved, separated and used individually, or linked to other elements, adapting to the needs of the space.‎ The result is a fluid and customisable system that transforms the sofa into a dynamic domestic platform.‎
