Always inspired by everyday gestures, Philippe Starck’s sensibility for local traditions and typical craftsmanship is evident in Hotte.‎ The tall, handwoven fruit-picking basket worn on the back of farm workers, with its sturdy round base, wide opening and lightweight aspect, was the starting point for this welcoming armchair.‎ The high-back armchair and combined circular pouf are hand-woven in willow, a long and meticulous process compared to traditional wicker weaving; as this natural material varies in diameter, it must be carefully selected and woven with unparalleled skill.‎ Hotte’s workmanship is enriched with distinctive details, such as characteristic knots, that refine the piece’s profile at the end of the armrests and curved back, and vertical rattan inserts added to the willow weave, further emphasising its authentically handcrafted appearance.‎ The model’s supporting structure, made of rattan skin, has the right dose of flexibility to guarantee comfort and support, while its soft padded cushions are upholstered in Voyage natural leather and embellished with contrasting stitching that recalls and perfectly combines with Starck’s Somewhere El-S and Volage Ex-S Night collections.‎
