Eichholtz LION Sandstone sculpture

The Met x Eichholtz introduces the Object Lion, inspired by the naturalistic forms of ancient Egypt, embodying both elegance and strength.‎ With its dignified expression and stylized anatomy, this sandstone object brings a striking historical presence to modern interiors.‎ True to the proportions and details of its ancient predecessor, the Object Lion reveals strength and serenity through lifelike features.‎ A tribute to protective symbolism, it anchors the room with mythic gravitas.‎ HISTORIC PROVENANCE This piece is an interpretation of an ancient Egyptian lion‚ head made of gypsum plaster in The Met collection, originally used as a model for stone waterspouts on temple walls.‎ Crafted during a time when lion imagery shifted from stylized forms to more naturalistic representations, it functioned as both an architectural element and spiritual guardian.‎ Eichholtz captures the form and energy of the original with reverence.‎ Sandstone finish | black base
