FRAGMENT #01/02
Glass and Stainless Steel pendant lamp
Erie Cathedral, located in Cambridge, being born 670 years ago and restored to its present appearance after many times, impressed me the most among all churches that I have been into yet. When light enters the interior through the window-paned glass roof, it reflects strange light through the vault, as if it is in a giant kaleidoscope, a feeling that does not exist in this space and time. The details of the arch structure and aesthetics centuries ago are clearly revealed, like an ancient and future revelation. The timeless beauty of glass, vaults, metal and intricate classical decor feeds new designs.
As what the floor plan of the product exhibits, the idea originated from the cut of arch. The pattern fuses with the influence from church architecture and what it derives, attempting to explore the linkage between the classical and modern. It uses stainless steel to fold it into extremely long cone with tension, glass used the texture material, through exquisite cutting fixed on to the stainless steel frame, deliberately exposed lamp holder, screw and wire directly fixed on the glass, build a kind of delicate and violent conflict.
