Vaselli EIDOS Stone Screen

The characteristic stone screen designed by Kensaku Oshiro takes up the challenge of creating a divider in stone that makes the matter light, allowing the light to pass through it and to play with it.‎ An extreme approach in treating the material, without distorting it.‎ In the designer’s vision, the visual lightness can’t be separated from having a complete stone element.‎ As usually happens, this requested a huge work for lightening and reinforcements that are hidden inside the screen.‎ The hollowed panel are made with travertine thicks that are shaped, carved, to place the reinforcing steell, and then they are glued and hollowed to create the light transparency effect.‎ The self-supporting structure is fixed with an efficient joint system that keeps it firmly on the elegant brushed steel base.‎ An element where the stone discovers new shapes and a never-seen lightness, without losing its own spirit.‎ EIDOS is the result of a collaboration between Vaselli and Oshiro which has lasted over two years, summing up the careful preparation and research done with the designer in the search of a new shape, becoming totally immersed in the reality of the Rapolano area and its travertine stone.‎ The EIDOS concept means not just innovation in design and manufacturing: it is also a symbol of the meeting of distant cultures, sculpted in travertine.‎ The unusual softness of the lines that shape EIDOS is an expression of Kensaku Oshiro’s intent to let the alternating three-dimensional play of light and shadow outline the volumes, drawing shapes that are not limited to the function of the elements, always guided by deep respect deriving from the awareness of working with an ancient material such as stone.‎ For EIDOS, apart from the discovery of new shapes, EIDOS is a new production challenge, setting new limits for lightness and minimal thickness values in the processing of solid stone.‎ The EIDOS bathroom collection includes furnishing solutions for the whole bathroom, with all its elements carved from single blocks of stone.‎ Further info from manufacturer on EIDOS Vaselli
