ENERGY is an hand knotted rug in wool and silk.‎ Goodweave certified.‎ For ‘Energy’, Deirdre challenged herself and the highly skilled team of Nepalese weavers.‎ She restricted herself to only using straight lines, frequently changing their direction to add interest.‎ A delicate silk border breaks each stripy woollen section.‎ She says, “The result for me was that the groups of lines were forcibly nudging each other for a position, so the title ‘Energy’ seems to fit.‎”   Deirdre has injected a totally fresh dimension into her 2023 collection, with ten new designs that celebrate the striking effect created by interplaying angles and linear shapes.‎ Her hand sketches were transposed with design technician Nichola into computer designs, Deirdre cleverly applying her eye for colour to turn them into designs that produce different illusions.‎ Such as, a three dimensional or transparent appearance, or to give a sense of depth and distance.‎ All in all, it’s a collection that Ancient Greek pioneers of trigonometry would be delighted by – as it artistically brings their theories to life!
