Deirdre Dyson FREEDOM Hand knotted rug in graded wool with silk

FREEDOM is an hand knotted in graded wool with silk.‎ Goodweave certified.‎ In ‘Freedom’, Deirdre expertly uses different hues in the same colour to create depth.‎ She explains, “I created a sense of distance using a dark graded background with a light centre to give the illusion of somewhere beyond.‎  The vibrant silken bars appear transparent when they crossover and leap to the foreground to accentuate the illusion of looking through.‎” A deceptively complex design, it features 12 different shades of silk and 15 colour graded woollen hues for the background.‎   Deirdre has injected a totally fresh dimension into her 2023 collection, with ten new designs that celebrate the striking effect created by interplaying angles and linear shapes.‎ Her hand sketches were transposed with design technician Nichola into computer designs, Deirdre cleverly applying her eye for colour to turn them into designs that produce different illusions.‎ Such as, a three dimensional or transparent appearance, or to give a sense of depth and distance.‎ All in all, it’s a collection that Ancient Greek pioneers of trigonometry would be delighted by – as it artistically brings their theories to life!
