Mardegan Legno HIVE Wooden parquet

Hive by Georgina Muñoz Reyes is a wooden parquet by Mardegan Legno in collaboration with SOS School of Sustainability.‎ The collection takes inspiration from the mathematical patterns from the natural world, where one of the most recurring is that of the honeycomb.‎ This pattern consists of the repetition of a regular polygon – the hexagon – along a grid.‎ These shapes have a clear underlying mathematical structure and play a key role in pattern formation throughout nature.‎ In the contemporary world, we humans use technology to pool our collective knowledge much in the way bees communicate amongst themselves.‎ The HIVE collection is a pattern that seeks to reflect this complexity in the spaces of our built environment.‎ Furthermore, the proposal looks to find a balance between the visual complexity of a nature-inspired design that could be customizable, with the regularity of a mathematical tessellation compatible with an efficient manufacturing process.‎ Likewise, the variance in size and tones allows for the pattern to easily be adapted and customized to any setting, creating a subtle gradient that suggests a desired path or accentuates a space.‎ The idea of working together with SOS School of Sustainability, a post-graduate school founded in 2015 by Arch.‎ Mario Cucinella, born from the desire of Mardegan Legno, to develop new collections that have as primary focus sustainability and environmental protection.‎ The collaboration marks an important moment in the research of Mardegan Legno, which combines creativity, innovation, craftsmanship and environmental sustainability in a highly professional educational and educational context.‎ The result are 10 different collections, developed by young emerging designers who combine the most modern design trends with the careful and conscious use of raw materials, a unique opportunity to combine creativity and innovation with environmental sustainability.‎
