The UPHOLSTERED ARMLESS SOFA is a re-edition of the two and a half seater model created for building lobbies in Chandigarh in the 1950s. This re-edition is true to the dimensions and external form of the original design, with improvements made to the structural elements and quality of materials to create a chair that is built to last. The external leg and cross bars are made of solid teak, while the inner frame is made of pinewood. High quality premium polyurethane foam in a carefully calibrated combination of densities is used to create the perfect ergonomic seating comfort. The UPHOLSTERED ARMLESS SOFA is available in select velvets and woollen fabric, with rub counts close to 100,000.
Wood finish: Natural Teak / Dark Stain / Z4 Walnut
Weave type: Diamond Weave / Cross Weave
Project Chandigarh is our homage to Indian Modernism, a style and philosophy of making that manifested in Chandigarh in the 1950s. Our re-editions's of these mid-century designs use the same craftsmanship and philosophy of making that was used for three decades in Chandigarh. The nuances and details that make these designs special – finger joints, curvatures, grooves – are retained while improving the pieces structurally and materially. The natural rattan cane used for the seats and backs are peeled and woven by hand, by highly skilled weavers just like in the vintage pieces.
