Sismocell
Sismocell devices are anti-seismic devices for the creation of non-rigid dissipative connections between structural elements, used in the context of interventions to reduce the seismic risk of industrial warehouses. In fact, their most widespread application is to eliminate the main seismic vulnerabilities of existing prefabricated structures: the absence of effective constraints between beams and pillars and/or between roofing elements.
Sismocell is a steel and carbon fiber device that creates a non-rigid dissipative connection at the beam-column node of existing prefabricated structures. Sismocell devices are dissipative mechanical fuse constraint devices with CE marking in accordance with the European standard UNI EN 15129 "Anti-seismic devices". In the event of an earthquake, the devices are activated when a certain force threshold is exceeded and allow a controlled relative displacement between the structural elements, limiting the transferred stresses and ensuring an effective connection between the structural elements thanks to the presence of a limit switch. The special dissipative fuse behavior of the devices allows to absorb part of the earthquake energy, reducing its destructive effects and preserving the building, thus realizing an improvement in the seismic performance of the structure. In fact, the installation of the devices in prefabricated industrial warehouses aims to limit the stresses transferred between the structural elements by eliminating the main peaks of seismic acceleration, and to improve seismic safety without intervening with onerous reinforcement interventions at the base of the pillars.
