Wooden bench with back
Combining function, elegance and value in furniture appeals to the Cologne designer Peter Otto Vosding. This is also the case with the B51 log bench. The source of inspiration for his strictly geometric furniture was the straight-lined framework of half-timbered houses. Vosding's log bench, whose wide armrests can function as small tables, is characterised by the contrast of closed surfaces, open frame, the strict geometry and the outwardly offset back legs. A piece of furniture that is conceivable for many situations: as thinking and waiting furniture for reception or museums; whether with a cup of coffee on the armrest or a Moleskine for notes.
After the first models Peter Vosding built, the first prototype was created in Tecta's workshops. "When I presented the design to Tecta, we were struck by the proximity to Walter Gropius bench D51. The relationship to the outwardly offset front and rear legs as well as the strict geometry," describes Vosding. "The block bench could appear as a reinterpretation of the D51, related but independent." Precisely because it was designed without reference to the D51, it underlines the topicality of Bauhaus teachings and their lasting influence on design.
