In every sector of human activity, an essential and now unavoidable requirement is sustainable development, i.e. 'development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs'.
The increase in sensitivity to this aspect within the construction sector can be seen in the new regulatory approaches, as well as in the emergence of countless Environmental Assessment Regulations, Procedures and Protocols, both nationally and internationally.
The aim of General Admixtures has always been to support and promote the development of technologies that make it possible to produce high-performance cement mixes with a high degree of sustainability, while reducing costs.
All of General Admixtures' activities in this respect are embodied in the Sustainable Concrete Approach (SCA), which aims to promote the Environmental Sustainability of the Concrete Sector and at the same time meet the following five essential objectives
- Increase the Performance of the material
- Optimise cement content
- Limit the use of Natural Resources and use Technologically Advanced Products that are not hazardous or harmful
- Increase the Durability of Structures
- Reduce the Overall Costs of Structures
The SCA approach uses a number of useful indicators to evaluate the efficiency of each concrete mix from different points of view. The ability to 'quantify' these indicators provides a measure of the Eco-Sustainability of the concrete produced.
