General Admixtures
The design and realisation of an underground structure are certainly very delicate aspects. Many issues must be considered, such as the interaction between the structure and the ground, the possible need to create provisional works to allow the excavation to be carried out, the influence with existing structures, etc. The above-mentioned aspects are of primary importance, and one can be added whose importance cannot be considered secondary: waterproofing in the case of a structure below ground level. The aspects mentioned are of primary importance, and to these we can add one whose importance cannot be considered secondary: waterproofing in the case of a structure below groundwater level.
The success of waterproofing in a water table depends on many factors that start from the design phase up to the realisation of the structure. These operational phases can be summarised as follows:
- Design of the temporary groundwater drainage system or alternative systems to allow work to be carried out in dry conditions (artificial freezing of the ground, etc..);
- Design of the waterproof structure: definition of the carpentry and arrangement of the optimal reinforcements;
- Design of the executive details of the structure suitable for being made waterproof: casting joints, crossings, elevation jumps, movement joints, etc.;
- Implementation of the temporary water drainage system;
- Execution of the structure by means of phases allowing work to be carried out in dry conditions;
- Use of suitable concretes and professional execution of the castings;
- Guaranteed sealing of any pump shafts.
The aspects mentioned are only a few and it is therefore easy to understand that waterproofing a structure in a water table involves various figures that must somehow be coordinated so that the final result is guaranteed.
It should be noted that any problems regarding the lack of sealing of the waterproofing system lead to enormous consequences, both in terms of the usability of the structures and their durability.
To this aspect must be added the huge economic outlay for repairing the infiltrations, provided that this is possible and can give lasting results over time.
The WT SYSTEM system proposed here aims to solve all the critical issues described and at the same time to offer maximum guarantees on the result, the WT SYSTEM system in fact allows the waterproofing to be maintained over time.
