Illulian LOVE Rug in Himalayan wool, silk and vegetable colors

Love rug designed by Matter Bin Lahej - Design for Illulian, belonging to the Limited Edition line, handmade with Himalayan wool, pure silk and vegetable colors.‎   This rug has been designed for Illulian by the self-taught Emirati artist Mattar Bin Lahej, renowned worldwide for his eclectic and distinctive use of Arab calligraphy in his artworks.‎ Love draws on the long-studied and perfected Mattar Font, in which the artist’s fascination with the decorative essence of Arabic fonts and passion for interdisciplinary creativity converge.‎ It was created by grafting inspirations from Japanese onto classic Arabic fonts, as to obtain an inherently artistic output, flexible and adaptable to any artistic medium and field.‎ The world “Love” (حب), decorating the whole rug, is one of the most powerful and poetic Arabic words, chosen to embody and symbolize all the values that Mattar wanted to instill in this collaboration: joy, happiness, courage, determination.‎ The word “love” is also a recognition of his own personal love for art, specifically the art of Arabic typography and calligraphy.‎ .‎ This rug is hand knotted in Nepal by our artisans by using 50% silk and 50% fine Himalayan wool dyed using vegetale and mineral pigments.‎ Size, fiber compositions, shape and pile heights are customizable.‎
