COFFEE TABLE - GLASS TOP
Rectangular wood and glass coffee table
The COFFEE TABLE - GLASS TOP is a re-edition of the centre table that was made for public buildings in Chandigarh in the 1960s. The upper ‘U’ portion of the table is made of teak veneer glued to high quality water resistant plywood. The horizontal and vertical pieces of veneer that make up the upper portion have a visible 45 degree mitre joint between them.
The 8mm glass table top is supported by a wooden stiffener that runs along the length of the table, just below the glass. There are two other solid teak braces that run along the length of the table and on which the top U base rests. The V-legs of the table are made of solid teak and are rounded along the edges.
Wood finish: Natural Teak / Dark Stain
Project Chandigarh is our homage to Indian Modernism, a style and philosophy of making that manifested in Chandigarh in the 1950s. Our re-editions's of these mid-century designs use the same craftsmanship and philosophy of making that was used for three decades in Chandigarh. The nuances and details that make these designs special – finger joints, curvatures, grooves – are retained while improving the pieces structurally and materially. The natural rattan cane used for the seats and backs are peeled and woven by hand, by highly skilled weavers just like in the vintage pieces.
