EcoDesigner STAR is designed to serve the design of energy-efficient buildings by moving from ARCHICAD Building Information Models (BIM) to Building Energy Models (BEM) models with multiple thermal zones.
Architects can now enjoy the benefits of high-end building energy performance simulation and reporting without leaving ARCHICAD.

EcoDesigner STAR is an ARCHICAD extension that enables a complete workflow from BIM to BEM.
This allows designers to fully exploit and further extend the sustainable modelling capabilities built into ARCHICAD.
Straight from BIM to BEM
EcoDesigner STAR is designed to serve the design of energy-efficient buildings by moving from ARCHICAD Building Information Models (BIM) to Building Energy Models (BEM) models with multiple thermal zones.Architects can now enjoy the benefits of high-end building energy performance simulation and reporting without leaving ARCHICAD.Designing low- or zero-energy buildings is made easier for architects around the world thanks to EcoDesigner STAR's standards-compliant energy simulation engine, and its energy model documentation and visualisation.
In addition to the built-in energy simulation capabilities, EcoDesigner STAR's advanced export interfaces (such as gbXML and PHPP) enable a full collaborative workflow with energy and environmental consultants and allow export from ARCHICAD to calculation applications for building performance compliance.
EcoDesigner STAR workflow
EcoDesigner STAR offers a workflow that meets the most stringent building energy efficiency assessment standards, providing accurate energy analysis at any stage of the project.

Assessment for any climate or location
EcoDesigner STAR can be used to assess building energy performance under any type of circumstances and locations worldwide.
EcoDesigner STAR uses a personal building dynamic simulation method that is considered valid worldwide. This allows users to accurately assess the building's energy performance under any climate or anywhere in the world.
Optimising Whole Building Energy Efficiency
EcoDesigner STAR Key Features
The combination of the BIM model with hourly energy simulation based on weather conditions and operation profiles creates a virtual reality design environment that adds an extra dimension to the Building Information Modeling experience.
Multiple Thermal Blocks
EcoDesigner STAR handles multiple thermal blocks for energy balance calculations. ARCHICAD zones are grouped according to orientation, occupancy and building systems used in thermal blocks, which are needed to perform highly accurate energy simulations.
Simulation of Thermal Bridges
EcoDesigner STAR allows architects to perform thermal bridge analysis on any detail of their design in seconds. This 2D heat flow simulation can be performed on any ARCHICAD design detail to identify those parts of the building that are responsible for heat loss and could therefore cause vapour condensation or other undesirable effects. Thermal Bridge simulation results can be placed on layouts and displayed as part of the project documentation set.
Renewable energy in the field
EcoDesigner STAR's Building Energy Model can incoporate renewable energy solutions from the environment such as photovoltaic systems and wind turbines. Generating electricity in the field enables excellent energy efficiency if not low or zero energy building design.
Export BIM Geometry and Thermal Property Data
EcoDesigner STAR ensures streamlined communication with other building energy calculation applications. The geometry and material properties of the Building Energy Model can be shared with other energy analysis applications via a rich variety of data export formats such as:
Direct export to PHPP
Direct export to iSBEM
Direct export to VIP-Energy
Export via gbXML
Dedicated 'Green' IFC translator
Expert Building Systems
Architects can switch between basic and expert modes for Building Systems independently for each building system, so only relevant parameters are displayed each time. System settings can be gradually refined using the expert mode as the project progresses.
