HELLA & BIBI
Glass-fibre vase
Hella & Bibi are decorative objects in lacquer, designed to house a glass container for fresh flowers or to be used directly with dried flowers. As they are not waterproof, their use is limited to decorative vases.
Marie-Aurore Sticker-Métral explains: "The Hella & Bibi vases are born from a simple idea: how an essential form can transform into a presence. Their design is based on generous, almost archetypal volumes, where taut and controlled lines meet slight curves that soften the volume and accentuate the sensation of fullness. In these objects, a subtle tension is perceived: between rigor and softness, structure and sensuality. The lacquered finish amplifies this sensation: the depth of color captures light and lets it slide over the surface, giving the volume an almost pictorial effect. The two-tone treatment, with a contrasting edge, defines the contour like a pencil stroke, emphasizing the silhouette and transforming the vase into a true drawn form in space."
She then adds: "Hella is color becoming matter. The name pays homage to Hella Jongerius, whose research on color and materiality deeply influenced contemporary design. As in her series of vases, Hella is conceived as a color support: the hue is not just applied, but gives depth and presence. Bibi, on the other hand, pays a more personal homage: that to a grandmother who collected large Asian, Chinese, and Japanese vases. The memory of these imposing and almost totemic pieces inspires the generosity of the volume. Bibi thus assumes a strong, almost sculptural presence."
