PLANITHERM INFINITY ORAÉ® is the world's first glass with a low carbon footprint.
Produced at the Saint-Gobain Italia plant in Pisa, Italy, ORAÉ® is a substrate made with a production process that reduces CO2 emissions by 42% compared to standard glass, with the same technical performance, quality and aesthetic appearance.
To put this in order, the ORAÉ® substrate has a carbon footprint of only 6.64 kg CO2 equivalent per square metre (4 mm thick reference). This is a remarkable achievement considering that the entire construction industry is responsible for 40% of annual carbon dioxide emissions and windows contribute up to 12%.
The ORAÉ®'s distinctive low carbon footprint was achieved through a joint effort by Saint-Gobain Italy and its suppliers in the glass supply chain. This collaboration has made it possible, firstly, to increase the amount of cullet fed into the melting furnace to 64%, significantly reducing raw material and energy consumption.
