THE BLUE HOURS
Acrylic lamp with GPS
The Blue Hours is a companion edition to As Long As The Night Lasts, created as a response to the original work’s longing for sunset, this time as a longing for the blue sky.
Its core function and behavior are the same as the original. Using an embedded GPS module, it automatically synchronizes with the local sunset and sunrise of its installation site: it turns on at sunset, remains active through the night, and turns off at sunrise.
The lined up blue lights gradually turn off from one side to the other, quietly visualizing the passing hours of night. Even in a very small room, the piece can preserve the sense of looking up at a clear blue sky and the openness it gives.
It can be switched between synchronized mode and constant lighting mode, can be used tabletop or wall-mounted, and can also be customized to synchronize with a specific location anywhere in the world.
Specifications:
Dimensions H8.5 × W28 × D7cm; weight approx. 700 g; materials acrylic panel, aluminum, electronic circuit board; light source LED; power USB Type-C (5V 1A); rechargeable (6× replaceable NiMH batteries); up to 12 hours in constant lighting mode. It can also be used while charging. The back is engraved with title/author/year; shipped with a storage box, signed certificate, and USB cable.
A series of GPS-synchronized light pieces that visualize how night begins and ends. The work turns on at sunset, slowly shifts through the night, and fades out with sunrise—bringing local time and sky into the interior.
