WHEN WILL THE WIND RISE
Acrylic and polymer lamp
When Will The Wind Rise is a light piece that gives form to the time of waiting. Rather than producing a dramatic change, it creates a field of subtle movement in light and shadow, allowing the atmosphere of a room to shift slowly and almost imperceptibly.
Three side dials let the user shape its behavior through simple manual control, including switching and dimming. By adjusting the dials, the piece generates delicate rhythms of flicker and trembling light, as if the air itself were moving slightly before anything visible begins. The experience is less like operating a lamp and more like tuning a quiet condition in the room.
The piece was inspired by the artist’s memory of beginning to live alone in a small room in the city, while recalling a large window in a parent’s house and a white curtain gently waves by the incoming breeze. When Will The Wind Rise was created from that distance between present space and remembered air, turning a private memory of wind into a light for everyday life.
