NORDIC COPPER - Медный панель для фасада
VM Building Solutions has assumed the exclusive distribution of Nordic Copper products in Italy. Nordic Copper is the Aurubis product line for architectural applications. The unrivaled range of surface treatments offers copper and brass with various levels of oxidation and patina and brushed finishes. Nordic Copper is synonymous with tailor-made architectural solutions, longevity of the building envelope and guarantee of eco-sustainable products.
The natural development of the patina is one of the unique characteristics of copper: exposed to the external atmosphere it protects itself by developing a layer of patina over time, which makes it resistant to bad weather, with a lifespan of many generations. The changes are very gradual and not always predictable: just like atmospheric agents which, in turn, are solely responsible for the continuous changes in copper. The quality of the air and environmental conditions essentially determine the composition and protective properties of the patina, whose interaction with local atmospheric conditions will determine the surface appearance and its evolution over time. The way in which the protective patina is formed, its thickness and its composition largely influence the visual appearance of the material. Scientific results confirm that the level and speed of change in surface appearance mainly depend on:
Air quality and atmospheric conditions: the concentration of pollutants in the air, the deposition of particles and the prevailing atmospheric conditions largely influence the composition of the patina;
Distance from the sea: materials close to splash areas will develop a green hue quite quickly, while materials located in urban environments may tend towards a dark brown hue.
Typical evolution of the appearance of copper and its alloys used in architecture
Copper
After a few days of exposure to the atmosphere the color begins to oxidize, becoming chestnut brown, which gradually darkens over several years, finally acquiring its typical green patina.
Brass
An alloy of copper and zinc. The original shiny surface gradually changes to a green-brown which further develops into a gray brown, then into a dark anthracite brown. Inclined surfaces can develop a patina similar - but clearly different - to that of pure copper.
Bronze
An alloy of copper and tin. The original warm reddish-brown color develops in a peculiar way with atmospheric agents. At first, a characteristic surface oxidation with a gray-brown shade is observed, which then gradually changes to dark anthracite-brown. The subsequent patina forms much more slowly than with pure copper.
Golden copper
This golden material is an alloy of copper with aluminum and zinc, very stable and which maintains its golden hue over time. It behaves differently than pure copper, containing all three alloy elements in the thin protective oxide layer. As a result, it retains its golden color over time, simply losing some of its shine as the oxide layer thickens, acquiring a dull golden appearance.
Nordic Copper products are inspired by the natural patina formation process:
Cu-DHP (deoxidized copper, oxygen-free with residual phosphorus content) according to DIN EN 1172
Factory pre-patinated copper in different patination levels
No peeling or cracking of the surface during patina production
The color corresponds to a natural patina in normal conditions (outback).
